Fighting Poverty in New York
At Surmount, our vision is a future where every person, regardless of their circumstances, has the tools and support needed to make positive choices, overcome challenges, and build a life of purpose and fulfillment. Join us in creating a community where potential is recognized and nurtured, setting the stage for a brighter, more resilient generation.
Our Mission
Our mission at Surmount is to support the access and collaboration of resources to strengthen New York communities and offer opportunities for personal growth.
How We Can Make a Difference
Awareness
We identify the barriers faced by individuals, bringing these challenges to light, and vocalizing their concerns and needs. By doing so, we not only highlight the problems but also develop practical solutions
Access
We implement strategic solutions to address the voiced concerns. This involves partnering with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and other groups to create a comprehensive support network
Advancement
We offer opportunities that individuals might not otherwise have, such as traveling and professional development workshops, to help them achieve self-sufficiency and broader life experiences

Our Impact
In our 2024 Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive, we were able to create 185 meals for families residing in Harlem, Bronx, and Yonkers. Moreover, we actively involved 132 young people, aged 14 to 25, in fostering awareness about childhood hunger and community service. Additionally, we provided training to 6 student leaders to spearhead food drives within their school.
"it wasn't just about learning, it was also about having fun and helping people in need."
– Geraldy, 12, volunteer pb + j drive student leader
